When Divergence Fails: Filters That Matter
Failed divergences teach more than perfect textbook examples—if you review them deliberately.
Divergence fails often during strong trends when momentum resets higher highs on RSI while price simply pauses. Treating every pause as a reversal is a common journal error.
Another failure mode is mismatched timeframes: a daily bullish divergence ignored while a lower timeframe trend remains firmly down.
We collect failed examples in the Chart Reading Lab and classify them. Over a month, students usually find two or three repeating causes in their own work.
The goal is not zero failures. The goal is fewer surprises because filters were written before the trade idea felt exciting.
